Virginia Tech, James Madison, Saint Joseph’s, and Colorado Named Top Seeds for 2025 WBIT
Virginia Tech, James Madison, Saint Joseph’s, and Colorado headline the 32-team field for the 2025 Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT), the NCAA announced. The tournament, in its second year, provides a postseason opportunity for teams not selected for the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.
First-round games will be played on March 20, with the highest-seeded teams hosting on campus sites. The second round follows on March 23, and quarterfinals on March 27. The semifinals and championship will be held at Butler University’s Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on March 31 and April 2.
Automatic bids were awarded to eight teams that won their regular-season conference titles but did not receive NCAA Tournament invitations. These include UAlbany (America East), UTSA (American Athletic), Hawaii (Big West), N.C. A&T (Coastal Athletic), UNLV (Mountain West), Southeastern Louisiana (Southland), James Madison (Sun Belt), and Gonzaga (West Coast). The remaining 24 at-large bids were selected by the WBIT committee.
First-round matchups include Texas Tech at Wyoming, UNI at Florida, Hawaii at UNLV, UTSA at Gonzaga, Oral Roberts at Missouri State, and Marquette at Drake. Higher-seeded Minnesota will travel to Toledo due to facility conflicts.
The WBIT selection committee seeded only the top 16 teams, with the rest placed based on geographic proximity.
