The Phoenix Mercury announced that three-time WNBA champion and all-time leading scorer Diana Taurasi will be inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor in the summer of 2026. Taurasi, who played 20 seasons with the Mercury, will become the sixth individual to receive the franchise’s highest honor.
“Diana is the greatest of all time,” Mercury and Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia said. “From championships to MVPs to gold medals, she is one of the most decorated athletes of all time, and we’re excited to celebrate all she’s done for the sport, the franchise and our city.”
Taurasi’s No. 3 jersey will be retired alongside those of Jennifer Gillom, Cheryl Miller, Bridget Pettis, Penny Taylor and Michele Timms. Selected first overall by Phoenix in the 2004 WNBA Draft, she played her entire career with the Mercury, averaging 18.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 4.2 assists over 565 regular season games. She is one of only four NBA or WNBA players to spend 20 or more seasons with a single franchise.
A 14-time All-WNBA selection and 11-time All-Star, Taurasi led the Mercury to three championships and was named the WNBA’s Greatest Player of All-Time in 2021. She retires as the league’s all-time leader in points (10,646), field goals (3,341), three-pointers (1,447) and free throws (2,517).
In July 2024, the Mercury unveiled a state-of-the-art practice facility in downtown Phoenix featuring the Diana Taurasi Courts, which commemorate her legacy, including a logo inspired by the moment she became the first WNBA player to surpass 10,000 career points.
