Golden State Valkyries Unveil State-of-the-Art Performance Center in Oakland
The Golden State Valkyries have taken a major step toward their inaugural WNBA season with the introduction of their new performance center in downtown Oakland. The facility, one of only four in the league dedicated specifically to a WNBA team, is designed to provide state-of-the-art training resources while reinforcing the franchise’s presence in the Bay Area.
Spanning 31,800 square feet, the complex features two full-size basketball courts, with additional court space bringing the total to 17 hoops. Originally used as the Golden State Warriors’ headquarters from 1997 to 2019, the facility has been reimagined to include a locker room, weight room, training room, hot and cold pools, and a dedicated player lounge.
Valkyries General Manager Ohemaa Nyanin emphasized the significance of the new space, calling it “a testament to our vision of building a championship culture in the Bay Area.” She noted that the facility’s amenities and prime location would be instrumental in developing elite talent and strengthening ties with the Oakland community.
Head Coach Natalie Nakase echoed that sentiment, highlighting how the dedicated training space will impact player performance and team chemistry. “This facility gives our athletes everything they need to train, recover, and prepare at the highest level,” she said.
Beyond its function as a training hub, the performance center is also designed to serve as a community space. The Valkyries plan to host youth basketball programs, training camps, and clinics, offering opportunities for local athletes to develop their skills.
A bold artistic touch sets the facility apart—a striking 215-foot mural by Oakland artist Allison Hueman decorates the entrance, reflecting the Valkyries’ journey and deepening their connection to the city. The artwork will also be featured in team merchandise.
Designed by Populous and constructed by DPR Construction, the center is just one piece of the franchise’s growing infrastructure. The Valkyries are also nearing completion on their 6,800-square-foot locker room at Chase Center in San Francisco, which will provide players with high-end amenities on game days.
With this latest development, the Valkyries continue to lay the groundwork for their debut season, establishing a home base that blends elite training capabilities with a commitment to the Oakland community.
