Unrivaled Announces Head Coaches for Inaugural Season

Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 professional women’s basketball league co-founded by WNBA stars Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, announced the six head coaches for its inaugural season, which tips off on January 17, 2025, in Miami, Florida. The league is designed to offer a high-level domestic platform for professional players during the WNBA offseason, aiming to keep talent stateside while advancing women’s basketball. It will feature 30 of the top professional players in the sport.

The six head coaches bring a wealth of experience, with backgrounds spanning the NBA, WNBA, college basketball, and global player development. Team assignments, rosters, and schedules will be announced on November 20. All games will be held at a new state-of-the-art facility in Miami and broadcast live on TNT and truTV and streamed on Max.

Unrivaled Head Coaches

  • Phil Handy: Three-time NBA Champion and assistant coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
  • Adam Harrington: Former assistant coach and Director of Player Development for the Brooklyn Nets, with a nine-year professional playing career.
  • Nola Henry: Former assistant coach with the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks and Connecticut Sun, as well as a collegiate player and coach.
  • DJ Sackmann: Renowned skills coach with over 15 years of experience and founder of HoopStudy, an online player development platform.]
  • Andrew Wade: Former player development/assistant coach with the Washington Mystics, including during their 2019 WNBA Championship season.
  • Teresa Weatherspoon: Naismith Hall of Famer and WNBA legend, with coaching experience in the WNBA, ABA, and NCAA.

Vision of Unrivaled

Collier and Stewart launched Unrivaled with a mission to provide a competitive and developmental environment for women’s basketball players. The league focuses on enhancing skills, fostering growth, and creating visibility for athletes without the need for overseas travel. The six-team league promises to deliver a fresh and engaging experience for both players and fans.

Format

The inaugural season will feature an eight-week schedule, including playoffs. Each of the six teams, consisting of five players per roster, will compete in a round-robin format during the regular season. At the conclusion of this phase, the top four teams in the standings will advance to the playoffs, where they will battle for the league’s first championship.
