Golden State Valkyries Surpass 20,000 Season Ticket Deposits Ahead of Inaugural 2025 Season
SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Valkyries, the WNBA’s highly anticipated 13th franchise, achieved another historic milestone on Tuesday, announcing over 20,000 season ticket deposits for their upcoming debut in the 2025 season. The Valkyries, set to play home games at the Chase Center, continue to break new ground for women’s sports, marking the first time a WNBA expansion team has seen such overwhelming support even before stepping onto the court.
The Valkyries reached the historic 15,000-ticket deposit threshold in July, setting a precedent as the first women’s sports team to achieve that mark. Surpassing 20,000 deposits only four months later underscores the Bay Area’s enthusiasm for women’s basketball and the WNBA’s growing fan base.
The WNBA released the guidelines for the Golden State Expansion Draft, scheduled for December 6, 2024, and to be broadcast on ESPN. The Valkyries will select from a pool of unprotected players across the league’s 12 existing teams, assembling a foundational roster for the 2025 season. In addition, the Valkyries will hold the fifth pick in each round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
Natalie Nakase, a former assistant coach with the Las Vegas Aces, was named the Valkyries’ first head coach in October. Nakase’s experience and reputation bring leadership and a strategic vision to the expansion team as it builds its roster and culture.
The Valkyries is the WNBA affiliate of the seven-time NBA Champion Golden State Warriors, who announced the new team on October 5, 2023.
