South Carolina Favored to Win 2025 SEC Women’s Basketball Championship

South Carolina has been selected as the favorite to win the 2025 Southeastern Conference women’s basketball title, according to a preseason poll conducted by SEC and national media members. The Gamecocks, who are coming off an undefeated season that culminated in a national championship, return four starters and nine letter-winners while adding the No. 2 recruiting class in the nation, as ranked by ESPN.

The Gamecocks’ 2024 recruiting class includes three top-30 signees, two of whom are ranked within the top 15, further solidifying their status as the team to beat in the SEC. Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky follow South Carolina in the top half of the preseason standings.

Three-Way Tie for Player of the Year

In a competitive race for SEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year, LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson, Texas’ Madison Booker, and LSU transfer Aneesah Morrow were all named co-favorites, each receiving eight points in the voting. Other notable players receiving votes included Georgia Amoore (Kentucky), Madison Scott (Ole Miss), Raegan Beers (Oklahoma), Skylar Vann (Oklahoma), and Raven Johnson (South Carolina).

All-SEC First and Second Teams

Joining Johnson, Morrow, and Booker on the All-SEC First Team are Sarah Ashlee Barker (Alabama), Georgia Amoore (Kentucky), Raegan Beers (Oklahoma), and Te-Hina Paopao (South Carolina). The poll also recognized a second team composed of Mikaylah Williams (LSU), Madison Scott (Ole Miss), Skylar Vann (Oklahoma), Raven Johnson (South Carolina), MiLaysia Fulwiley (South Carolina), and Rori Harmon (Texas).

With a mix of returning stars and highly-ranked newcomers, South Carolina is well-positioned to extend its dominance in the SEC and compete for another national title.
