Results of the 2024 WNBA Draft: Caitlin Clark heads to Indiana as the first pick: “This is a great day for the Indiana Fever”

When Caitlin Clark announced earlier this year that she would enter the WNBA Draft, fans in Indiana rejoiced. Local businesses and artists let their elation show via marquees and a mural in the city. Today, the Indiana Fever officially announced what everyone knew was coming. Clark became the first pick in the 2024 Draft.

For the second straight year, the Fever had the No. 1 selection and Clark will join last season’s pick, the 2023 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston in Indianapolis. She is the consensus Division I Player of the Year for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons and the NCAA men’s and women’s all-time leading scorer

“We are thrilled to add Caitlin Clark to our roster,” Indiana Fever general manager Lin Dunn said. “This is a great day for the Indiana Fever and all of Pacers Sports & Entertainment. I am confident she will have an immediate impact on our team and the league. Any time you can add two consecutive No. 1 draft selections, it creates enormous interest and visibility.”

Stanford center Cameron Brink was the second pick, going to the Los Angeles Sparks. The 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award winner also earned Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the Pac-12. She won a national championship with Stanford in 2021.

South Carolina center Kamilla Cardoso has two national championships under her belt after her team won this year’s title. Her team went a perfect 38-0 on the way and she earned the  Most Outstanding Player of the  Final Four with back-to-back double-doubles.
