Cameron Brink’s Triple-Double Highlights No. 3 Stanford’s 62-54 Win Over Oregon
STANFORD, Calif. – Led by a record-breaking triple-double from junior forward Cameron Brink, No. 3 Stanford (21-2, 9-1 Pac-12) completed a weekend sweep of the conference’s Oregon schools. After beating Oregon State Friday night, the Cardinal finished up Sunday afternoon with a 62-54 win over the Oregon Ducks (14-7, 5-5).
Improvement Assists and Balanced Effort
Stanford kept the visitors from gaining momentum with a balanced effort punctuated by 18 assists. It was a significant change from Friday night’s squeaker against the Beavers when the home team finished with just five assists in a tight 63-60 victory.
“It was an exciting weekend for our team,” said Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer who was pleased with the number of players who contributed Sunday, especially “our whole big three of Cam, and Haley [Jones], and Hannah [Jump]. Talana [Lepolo] played well; Indya [Nivar] had some great minutes.”
“We let off a little bit in the second quarter; at the end of the second quarter, they scored nine straight points,” added VanDeveer. “But different people came in…Brooke [Demetre] did a great job, coming in, helped us out, got her shot working, played defense, and rebounded.”
Demetre had a few quick treys in the third quarter to keep the Cardinal with a nice advantage in the face of Oregon’s attempted comeback when they got within five of Stanford.
Brink’s Big Block Party and Triple-Double
The game’s biggest story was Cameron Brink’s triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds, and ten blocks. It was the first time in program history that a player earned a triple-double that included blocks and only the second time in Stanford basketball history. In her career high for swatting shots, Brink also broke the program’s single-game record for blocks. The previous record was eight, set by Kristen Newlin in 2004.
Stanford’s career leader in blocked shots, Jayne Appel-Marinelli, was in the stands witnessing the junior forward on the floor close in on the all-time record. In addition, Brink’s parents, who played college basketball at Virginia Tech, were courtside to see their daughter reach the milestones.
“We did not expect this, especially her junior year,” said Michelle Bain-Brink. “We just wanted to get a W and for her not to foul out.”
When it comes to blocks, VanDerveer said she doesn’t think there’s anyone better in the Pac-12.
“I think she challenges anyone mentally,” VanDerveer said
Brink said she knew she was on the cusp of a triple-double: “I was aware, and then I really wanted that last one.”
Top Performers
In addition to Brink, Jump, a senior guard, scored 14 points. Fellow senior guard Haley Jones had 16 rebounds to go along with eight points and four assists. Starting point guard Lepolo had five points, six assists, and four rebounds.
For Oregon, sophomore center Phillipina Kyei finished with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Freshman guard Chace Gray scored 12 points, and freshman forward Grace VanSlooten added 11 points plus six rebounds.Â

Stanford’s next four games are on the road at the league’s Washington and Arizona schools. The Cardinal return home for a Feb. 17 game hosting USC, followed by a Feb. 19 matchup versus UCLA. Oregon returns home to host Colorado on Feb. 3 and Utah on Feb. 5.
