After nearly two years of straight losses, Chicago State (1-4) overcame the streak of bad luck and defeated Wisconsin (1-3) 71-63 in overtime. The road win in Madison was the program’s first victory since January 18, 2020. That last triumph was a 60-58 win over CSU Bakersfield.
Freshman guard Aaliyah Collins (Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak H.S.) led the Cougars with 25 points and six rebounds. Collins is the current Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week. Seven other players scored for Chicago State.
The game gave Chicago State head coach Tiffany Sardin her first victory in her tenure at the program. Per the school, “the win at Wisconsin also marks the first win against a Big Ten team for Chicago State women’s basketball since November 14, 2008, over Northwestern.”
Chicago State hired Sardin, a former Virginia standout, on May 15, 2020.
