Chicago Sky announces James Wade as new head coach
The Chicago Sky announced James Wade as the team’s new head coach Tuesday morning. Wade is a former assistant with the Minnesota Lynx. The franchise fired former head coach Amber Stocks in late August.
Wade spent two years with the Lynx. He also has international coaching experience, working with former UMMC Ekaterinburg in Russia and Basket Lattes Montpellier Agglomeration (BLMA) in France.
Sky guard Diamond DeShields attended the press conference along with Wade. She said that she’s had the opportunity to get to know him over the past week or so.
“I was just really excited,” DeShields said about learning Wade would be the team’s new coach. “I didn’t really know James but he knew me.  I think he and I have really established a good relationship as a player and coach.”
Last season the Sky finished the season with a 13-21 record and missed the playoffs both years of Stocks’ two-year tenure. The team also led the league in turnovers.
Wade is a graduate of Kennesaw State and played basketball at the school for two seasons. The native of Memphis, Tennessee is married former San Antonio Stars guard and French national team member Edwige Lawson-Wade.
Around the league, the Dallas Wings still has a head coaching vacancy.
