While UConn continues to have a stronghold on the No. 1 position in the Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed poll, there is a new No. 2 this week.
Mississippi State takes over second place, knocking down Louisville. The Bulldogs remain undefeated as SEC play gets underway. Junior center Teaira McCowan notched her 12th double-double with 31 points and 20 rebounds in a game versus Louisiana State last week. With wins over Georgia, Arkansas and LSU behind them, the Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways in the tough SEC as they face Ole Miss and Alabama this week.
In a reversal of fortune, South Carolina dropped five places to No. 10 after suffering a defeat at Missouri on Sunday. The Gamecocks could not handle junior guard Sophie Cunningham who lit up the scoring column with 27 points in the 83-74 victory.
Arizona State had the most improvement in the poll, moving up a whopping seven places to land at No. 18. The Sun Devils earned back-to-back wins over weekend, taking down Pac-12 foes Stanford and California. This week ASU will be tested in games against ranked Pac-12 teams when they travel north to face Oregon State on Friday and Oregon on Sunday.
Other teams that received votes: Syracuse, South Florida, Stanford, Green Bay, LSU, Southern California.
The STI/Hoopfeed Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of media members and other women’s basketball professionals. Total points are based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th.
