It was not an easy week for the No. 1 team, undefeated Connecticut. The Huskies survived a trip to Austin and a hard-fought battle 75-71 against No. 8 team Texas Monday night. While the Huskies stay on top of the rankings in Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed poll, Louisville returned to the No. 2 spots after routing No. 5 Notre Dame 100-67 Thursday night.
The two teams have been neck and neck in the rankings all season but Louisville’s victory made it clear who the better team is at this point in the season. Notre Dame dropped three places to land in fifth place.
Mississippi State is at the No. 3 spot. The top three teams are the only undefeated squads left in Division I. No. 4 Baylor and No. 5 Tennessee both moved up a place. Baylor topped Oklahoma last week while Tennessee took down No. 9 South Carolina on Sunday.
Oregon gained a spot to land at No. 7. The Ducks defeated Arizona and Arizona State over the weekend. No. 12 UCLA moved up two places after beating Utah and Colorado at the end of the week.
Georgia (16-2, 4-1) entered the poll at No. 24. The Bulldogs are tied with Tennessee for second place in the SEC and capped a four-game win streak with an overtime victory against No. 17 Texas A&M on Sunday.
Green Bay re-entered the poll at No. 25. The Phoenix remain the first-place squad in the Horizon League and are on a four-game winning streak.
Other teams that received votes: Rutgers, Villanova, TCU, Stanford, South Florida, Kansas State, Syracuse, Southern California, UC Davis.
The STI/Hoopfeed Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of media members and other women’s basketball professionals. Total points are based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th.
