It is no surprise that Connecticut remains the unanimous No. 1 in this week’s Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed poll. The top team’s last game was a win over Duquesne. The matchup took place Friday in Toronto, Canada to give senior guard Kia Nurse a homecoming in her home country. Nurse and UConn put on a quite a show, beating Duquesne 104-52, the largest margin of victory for her team this season.
There were no changes in the remainder of the top five as Louisville, Notre Dame, Mississippi State and South Carolina held their position. Baylor moved up a spot to No. 6. West Virginia also gained a place to land at No. 8. Oregon remains at No. 10.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Stanford fell out of the top 25. The Cardinal started the season at No. 16 and never rose any higher. Stanford has faced five top ten teams this season and lost to each one. In addition, last week the Cardinal started off with a home defeat at the hands of unranked Western Illinois and fell to Tennessee a few days later.
Texas A&M also lost ground, falling three places to No. 22. The Aggies lost to Oregon during the Duel in the Desert tournament in Las Vegas, 84-62. South Florida dropped four place to No. 25. The Bulls were bested by Michigan State 83-73 on Thursday at the New Orleans Shootout.
Other teams that received votes: Syracuse, Rutgers, Michigan State, Miami (FL), Southern California, Arizona State and Ball State.
The STI/Hoopfeed Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of media members and other women’s basketball professionals. Total points are based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th.
