Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed NCAA DI Top 25 Poll for Dec. 5, 2017: Notre Dame moves to No. 2; Green Bay enters at No. 24
While Connecticut (7-0) remained No. 1 with all the first-place votes in this week’s Sport Tours International/Hoopfeed poll, there was a lot of movement in the top 10.
No. 2 Notre Dame (7-1) moved up a place to No. 2 even though the Fighting Irish lost to the top-ranked Huskies Sunday. It was a hard-fought contest that saw Notre Dame enter the third quarter with an eight-point lead that blossomed to 11 in the first 30 seconds of the last period. UConn overcame Notre Dame by outscoring them 26-9 in the fourth quarter. The effort of Notre Dame did not go unnoticed by poll voters.
The undefeated Louisville Cardinals (8-0) and the Texas Longhorns (7-0) are tied for third place. Previously, Louisville was No. 2. The Cardinals took down Indiana and Summit League-power South Dakota State last week.
The Longhorns continued their winning streak with victories over Georgia and Louisiana Tech over the past several days. Georgia was undefeated before getting beat by Texas on Sunday.
South Carolina rounded out the top five. The Gamecocks took down No. 15 Duke on Sunday and routed Western Carolina last Thursday.
Oregon moved up two places to No. 9 to enter the top ten. The Ducks defeated Weber State and Hampton last week.
Ohio State had the biggest drop in the poll, landing at No. 13 after falling five places. The Buckeyes fell to Duke, 69-60, on Thursday night before recovering to beat Maine on Sunday.
Green Bay entered the top 25 for the first time this season at No. 24. The Phoenix knocked off Marquette, last week’s 25th place team. It was the second time Green Bay beat a ranked team this season. The Phoenix downed previously-ranked Arizona State in late November.
Marquette fell out of the poll after sitting in the last spot for two weeks. Texas A&M dropped three places to No. 21 after losing to West Virginia, 70-56, Sunday night.
Other teams that received votes in the poll: Â Marquette, New Mexico, Rutgers, Syracuse, DePaul, Iowa, Arizona State and North Carolina State.
The STI/Hoopfeed Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of media members and other women’s basketball professionals. Total points are based on 25 points for first place through one point for 25th.
