Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen out indefinitely after surgery on left hand


Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen underwent successful surgery to repair a fracture of her fifth metacarpal in her left hand today at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She will be sidelined indefinitely according to the team.

Whalen’s injury occurred during the third quarter of Thursday night’s 69-54 Lynx win over the Atlanta Dream. She started all 22 games for the Lynx this season, averaging 8.0 points (45.1%), 2.5 rebounds and a team-high 4.1 assists per game.

The Lynx play Sunday, August 6 against the Indiana Fever at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse at 5:00 p.m. CT (NBA TV).
