Social media recap: UCLA upsets Stanford at Maples for first time since 1999 with 85-76 win
STANFORD, Calif. – UCLA had four players in double figures led by Jordin Canada to upset Stanford at Maples Pavilion 85-76 for the first time since 1999. The Bruins recovered from a loss at Cal on Friday to stifle Stanford with defense and stellar offense.
Canada had 25 points and five assists while teammate Monique Billings finished with a double-double of 21 points plus 15 rebounds and four blocks. Kari Korver, who shot 5-of-7 from the three-point line, added 17 pints plus four rebounds. Nicole Kornet contributed 15 points plus four rebounds.
For Stanford, the loss was like a bad hangover from the elation of head coach Tara VanDerveer earning her 1,000th career victory over USC Friday night. However, VanDerveer seemed apprehensive about UCLA even in the midst of all the celebrations Friday and Monday’s game indicated why.
