Hoopfeed Poll for 2/21/17: UConn stays No. 1 after scare from Tulane, Stanford rises to No. 6
Even though Connecticut remained atop of the Hoopfeed Poll for the 13th straight week, the Huskies had a scare when they visited Tulane Saturday. The Green Wave came back from a 17-point deficit to get within two with just 15 seconds left in the game before UConn came away with a 63-60 victory.
Mississippi State moved up a spot after a good week with victories over Georgia and Texas A&M. Notre Dame moved into the No. 3 spot after taking down Clemson and Syracuse last week.
Fourth place belongs to Baylor as the Bears defeated Texas in a thriller Monday night. Maryland rounds out the top five. The Terps fell from last week’s No. 3 spot after a losing to Ohio State Monday evening.
Stanford rose to No. 6 after sweeping the Battle of the Bay series with Cal that finished up Sunday night. It was the second consecutive year that the Cardinal took down the Bears in both games of the series.
Other poll notes:
- Texas fell two spots to No. 7 after the loss to Baylor.
- Florida State and Washington fell three places each to No. 11 and No. 12, respectively. Florida state had two losses last week, first to Texas followed by a defeat at Virginia.
- Washington fell to UCLA in the first of the team’s two games last week.
- Three teams entered the poll: Drake, Kentucky, Missouri and Temple.
- The teams that fell out of the poll: Texas A&M, Arizona State, Kansas State and South Florida
