Atlanta Dream re-signs guard Meighan Simmons
The Atlanta Dream have re-signed guard Meighan Simmons, the team announced Thursday.
“I am super excited to be coming back to Atlanta for the second year in a row,” Simmons said. “Thank you to the coaching staff for allowing me to have another opportunity to help this team any way I can. It is going to be a great year for us and I’m excited about our future.”
Simmons, a WNBA rookie in 2016, averaged 3.1 points in 5.9 minutes in her first season in Atlanta. She was originally drafted 26th overall by the New York Liberty in the 2014 WNBA draft, but was later waived after appearing in all three preseason games for the Liberty.
“I am glad we were able to retain Meighan this offseason,” Head Coach Michael Cooper said. “She is an exceptional shooter and we are expecting big things from her in 2017.”
Simmons is currently playing in Poland for TS Wisla Can-Pack Krakow where she is averaging 16.9 points and 4.1 rebounds a game.
The Dream home opener is scheduled for Sunday, May 21 against the visiting Chicago Sky. Season
