Hoopfeed Poll for 2/14/17: No threats to UConn’s No. 1 position, Texas jumps up to No. 5
Connecticut is the unanimous consecutive No. 1 in the Hoopfeed poll for the 10th week in a row. It was a week to remember for the Huskies as they chalked up their 100th straight win with a victory over South Carolina Monday night. The Huskies now own the top two records for longest winning streaks in Division I basketball, women and men.
South Carolina’s position did not change in the poll. The Gamecocks stay put at No. 6.
Before UConn hit the century mark for consecutive wins, Texas upset Florida State in Tallahassee Monday night. The Longhorns came out on top in a 92-88 double overtime battle that included six players fouling out, including four Texas student-athletes.
Texas moved up to No. 5, a jump of three places and its highest position in the poll this season. Florida State dropped four spots to No. 8.
Baylor moved up a spot to No. 4. The Bears recovered from a loss to Texas in the previous week by beating TCU on Sunday, 91-73.
Out West, Washington continued to cement its place as a power in the Pac-12 with a sweep of Arizona and Arizona State.
Also in the Pac-12 team, Stanford rose two spots to No. 10 after a weekend of victories over Colorado and Utah.
The other power team in the conference, Oregon State, did not fare as well. The Beavers fell out of the top ten to land at No. 11, a drop of two spots. Oregon State started last weekend with a loss to unranked Southern California.
Back on the East Coast, North Carolina State improved its position by three places to end up at No. 15. The Wolfpack defeated Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech last week.
Texas A&M re-entered the poll at No. 23 after a week of wins over Alabama and Tennessee. Tennessee dropped out of the top 25.
Other teams that received votes: Oregon, Drake, Kentucky, Tennessee and Temple.
