Southern California sweeps Pac-12 Player of the Week Awards

After upsetting of Hoopfeed No. 21/AP No. 25 Texas A&M 66-62 last Wednesday, Southern California swept the Pac-12 Player of the Week awards. After the road victory USC improved to 6-1. It was the first loss of the season for Texas A&M.

The Player of the Week, junior forward Kristen Simon, had 20 points and eight rebounds in the win over the Aggies. The Freshman of the Week, Minyon Moore, added seven points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Sadie Edwards contributed 18 points in the upset.

USC ended the week with a 111-95 victory at Sacramento State on Saturday. Moore had 15 assists in the game, the second-most ever by a Trojan behind Rhonda Windham’s 17 assists back in 1981.

Up next for the Trojans is the Women of Troy Classic that includes Grambling State, Southern Methodist and Mississippi Dec. 16-18 at the Galen Center.

Player of the Week: Kristen Simon, USC

• 2 GP, 21.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, .531(17-32), .1.000 FT (9-9), 1 asst, 1 stl, 3 blk
• A perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in USC’s 66-62 victory at then-No. 25/19 Texas A&M. It was USC’s first win over a ranked team since Jan. 2016.
• The junior forward scored a career-high 23 pts in a 111-95 victory at Sacramento State.
• It is the first-career player of the week honor for Simon and the 46th all-time for USC.

Freshman of the Week: Minyon Moore, USC

• 2 GP, 10.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, .250 (4-16), .857 FT (12-14), 16 asst, 4 stl, 0 blk
• 15 assists in USC’s 111-95 victory at Sacramento State. Moore has two double-doubles (points and assists) this year.
• It is the second-ever freshman of the week honor for a Trojan, dating back to 2012-13 when the award was initiated.
