Rutgers senior guard Tyler Scaife to redshirt the 2016-17 season
Rutgers senior guard Tyler Scaife will redshirt the 2016-17 season according to head coach C. Vivian Stringer. The Little Rock, Arkansas native averaged 17.2 points per game and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors by both the coaches and the media last season.
“I want to assure our Scarlet Knight family that I am alright. A matter arose after last year’s basketball season that needed attention,” said Scaife. “After consulting with my family and medical team, I had a routine medical procedure. I feel that it is in my best interest to spend this season getting healthy. The matter is not career ending, substance abuse or pregnancy. I look forward to continuing team activities and returning to the floor in the future.”
“Tyler is an invaluable member of the Scarlet Knights and she has the full support of our staff and players in this decision,” said Stringer. “This decision was not made lightly and we do not want to rush Tyler back before she is ready. I feel that Tyler can best spend the next few months returning to full strength and ensure having a productive and successful final season at Rutgers and into her potential professional career.”
