Thousands of people including fans, coaches, athletes, former Lady Vols and even referees came to Knoxville Thursday to celebrate the life of legendary basketball coach Pat Summitt who passed away on June 28 after battling early onset dementia, Alzheimer’s Type. The audience included many women’s basketball coaching icons including Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma, Stanford’s Tara VanDerveer, Oklahoma’s Sherri Coale and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley.
