United States Olympic Committee announces 555-member 2016 U.S. Olympic Team
The United States Olympic Committee announced the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team that will compete at the upcoming Rio Olympic Games during a press conference at Venice Beach in Los Angeles yesterday. The 555-member roster includes 292 women and 263 men. This year’s competition includes the most women who have ever competed for any nation in Olympic Games history. The United States will be represented in 27 sports (40 disciplines) and 244 of the 306 medal events.
Team USA women’s basketball forward Tamika Catchings participated in the announcement. This weekend the USA’s women’s National Team kicked off its quest for a sixth-straight gold medal. The team is in Los Angeles practicing Saturday and Sunday before facing the USA Basketball Women’s Select Team in an exhibition Monday night at the University of Southern California’s Galen Center (7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET). The team will play three more exhibition contests before heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the Summer Games.
