After an eight-year career in the WNBA, Janell Burse walked away from the court with a championship ring she earned with the Seattle Stormin 2004.
She was a star player at Tulane University and selected by the Minnesota Lynx in 2001 during the second round of the WNBA draft. After three seasons, the 6-5 center landed in Seattle after a trade. She was a starter for the Storm for three years.
When she hung up her sneakers in 2009, Burse relied on her academic background to help launch business ventures including The Fresh Factor, a Houston-area chain of gourmet smoothie bars. She is also the commissioner of the newly formed Women’s’ Minor League Basketball Association (wmlba.com). The league is set to begin play in the latter part of 2016.
