Oregon signs heralded prep star Sabrina Ionescu, highest rated recruit to ever sign with the Ducks
From Oregon Athletics:
The Oregon women’s basketball program has signed guard Sabrina Ionescu to its 2016 recruiting class, head coach Kelly Graves announced Sunday.
Ionescu is one of the top players in the country and the highest rated recruit to ever sign with the Ducks.
The Miramonte HS graduate was named the USA Today national player of the year after also being selected the McDonald’s All-America game MVP. The 6-foot guard is the No. 4 ranked recruit in the nation by ESPNW.
Ionescu led Miramonte HS to the CIF state open division championship game, averaging 25.3 points, 8.8 assists, 7.6 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game as a senior.
She has won gold medals with team USA at the U16 FIBA Americas Championship and the U17 FIBA World Championships.
Ionescu joins a recruiting class already ranked No. 7 in the country by ESPNW.
She joins forward Sierra Campisano (No. 14 recruit), forward Ruthy Hebard (No. 40), guard Morgan Yaeger (No. 92) and Mallory McGwire (No. 98). The Ducks also signed forward Lydia Giomi, 5A first team all-state in Washington, and guard Jayde Woods, first team all-CIF open division in California, as part of its 2016 class.
“I think Sabrina will be the glue that will make this an incredible basketbal team, an incredible freshman class,” Graves said.
Oregon will go on a European trip to Amsterdam, Barcelona and Madrid at the end of August before opening the 2016-17 season in late October.
