New York Liberty re-signs Swin Cash for rest of season
The New York Liberty signed free agent forward Swin Cash for the rest of the season. The franchise waived Cash on May 11 in order to meet its WNBA salary cap requirements. Per league rules, New York was required to wait a minimum of 10 days before Cash was eligible to re-sign with the team.
“It’s wonderful to finally be back on the court with my teammates,” said Cash. “I feel great physically and I’m looking forward to contributing to this young team, both on and off the court. As one of the charter teams of the WNBA, which is celebrating its’ 20th Anniversary, I think it’s going to be a great year for the New York Liberty and I’m happy to be part of that!”
“The New York Liberty is extremely fortunate Swin Cash will continue to be a valued member of our franchise and has decided to return to play for the remainder of the 2016 season,” said team president Isiah Thomas. “The sacrifice Swin made in order to help the Liberty put the best possible team on the court this year, while also building toward our future, is reflective of her leadership, why she is the consummate teammate, and respected as one of the greatest to play the game.”
Cash, originally acquired by New York from the Atlanta Dream in exchange for DeLisha Milton-Jones during the 2014 season, has appeared in 49 games for the Liberty, making 32 starts. Last year, Cash started 28-of-34 games played, averaging 4.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game.
