Duke: Angela Salvadores and Azurá Stevens leave program

The Duke women’s basketball duo of Angela Salvadores and Azurá Stevens will not return to the Blue Devil program.
“I loved working with both Angela and Azurá,” commented Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie. “I wish them the very best in their future basketball careers.”
Salvadores, a freshman from Leon, Spain, will pursue a professional basketball career. The 5-10 guard started 15 of 29 contests as a rookie, while averaging 8.7 points, 3.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals.
“Thanks to my teammates, support staff and the Duke fans for always being supportive,” said Salvadores. “The Duke community opened their arms since day one and I always felt loved by them.”
An Honorable Mention Associated Press All-America as a sophomore, Stevens averaged 18.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals on the season. Her 18.9 points ranked second in the ACC, while her 9.6 boards and 14 double-doubles led the league. Stevens, a 6-6 wing from Raleigh, N.C., was a two-time All-ACC selection.
“My experience at Duke has been amazing,” said Stevens. “I would like to thank the staff and the Blue Devil community for all their support over the last two years. At this time, I feel it would be best for my basketball career go in a different direction.”
Duke is coming off totaling a 20-12 record in 2015-16 and missed out on the NCAA Tournament snapping a 21-year streak for the Blue Devils.
