Two-time Olympic gold medalist Candace Parker is not on the roster for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro according to a report by ESPN. Widely considered as one of the top players in the world, the 30-year-old forward received word from USA Basketball last week that she was not going to be on the list of 12 players selected for the final roster.
In the past few months Parker promoted Team USA and the Rio Games via her social media accounts. In addition, she participated in the team’s last exhibition tour of Europe in October 2015. During the trip that featured four games, Parker earned a double-double in two games and triple-double in the first contest against the defending Spanish League champions Uni Girona with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.
In January USA Basketball included her on the list of 25 finalists for the Rio Games roster. While she did not attend a February training camp for the pool due to her obligations to a pro team in China, neither did several other players who were playing overseas.
The final roster for the Summer Games is expected to be released Wednesday morning.
I was surprised & disappointed to be left off the 2016 USA Olympic Team. But I wish all the members of the team GOODLUCK in Rio. #Gold
