The Los Angeles Sparks signed Montenegrin forward Jelena Dubljevic. Per team policy, contract details were not disclosed.
From the Sparks:
A 14-year international veteran, Dubljevic has spent the past two seasons playing in Turkey with Galatasaray Odeabank. This season, the 6’3 forward is averaging 13.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists through 15 Turkish league games. During her first season with Galatasaray (2014-15), she led her team scoring in EuroLeague play, averaging a team-high 13.0 points, while adding 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 15 games.
“We are excited that Jelena ?will be joining our team this season,” said Sparks head coach Brian Agler. “I have watched her play multiple times and she is one of the premier European players with a “westernized” game. She is a power/small forward type of player with great versatility and is extremely competitive. All the WNBA players that have played in the EuroLeague over the past several years will be familiar with her quality of play.”
A member of the Montenegrin Senior National Team, Dubljevic averaged 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in five games played in EuroBasket Women 2015. The 28-year-old also ranked fourth in free-throw percentage among league-leaders, shooting .882 (15-17) from the charity stripe.
Dubljevic is no stranger to championship competitive play, having helped lead Serbia and Montenegro to a silver medal in the 2005 FIBA Europe Under-19 Championships and a gold medal in the 2003 Under-16 Championships.
