Australian Opals announce 27-player pool for Rio Games training camps
The Australian Opals announced the list of 27 players who will participate in Olympic training camps this spring and summer.
Marianna Tolo returns to the Opals after suffering a knee injury in the 2015 WNBA season. Liz Cambage returns after playing in China. Former Nebraska standout Kelsey Griffin, who recently gained Australian citizenship, is also on the roster. The first of four camps will be held in Canberra from March 29 to April 3. The following three camps will be held in late April in Gosford, late June in Canberra and early July on the Gold Coast.
Of the 27 players named, head coach Brendan Joyce is happy to have a majority of the bronze-medal winning team from the 2014 World Championship.
“We will utilize these camps to maintain and continue to develop the team chemistry we had at the 2014 World Championships and transfer that into 2016.”
