The draw for AfroBasket Women 2015 took place on Saturday at the Congress Palace (Palais des Congres) in Cameroon’s capital city of Yaounde. AfroBasket Women 2015 will be held from 24 September-3 October in Yaounde and serves as a qualifying event for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. It is the first time that Cameroon is hosting the event.
The results of the draw are as follows:
- Group A:Â Cameroon;Â Mozambique;Â South Africa;Â Gabon;Â Uganda;Â Mali.
- Group B:Â Angola;Â Senegal; Qualifier Zone II; Wild card;Â Algeria;Â Qualifier Zone III.
Three more teams are to be determined in order to complete the field. Two of them will book their spots through remaining qualifiers (in Zones II and III), with the final place to be attributed through a system of wild cards.
The championship, staged every two years, is the region’s flagship women’s competition.
The first phase of the tournament will be played in a round robin format, with every team taking on its five (5) opponents in its respective group. The top four teams from each group will advance to the final phase, played in a knockout format from the quarterfinals onwards (semifinals and final).
