In the most highly anticipated matchup of the first week of the 2014-15 women’s basketball season, No. 1 Connecticut will battle cross-country rival No. 6 Stanford. Both teams won their season openers and have a backcourt of speedy guards. The contest should be a fast-paced 40-minute race.

Game Notes
- UConn (1-0) is coming off a 102-43 win over UC Davis in its season opener on the road Friday. The Huskies set a single-game record with 18 made three-pointers, including a record-tying 10 from senior forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis.
- Led by Lili Thompson’s career high 26 points, Stanford shot 64.9 percent against Boston College on Friday in their opener, the fifth-best mark in school history. The Cardinal outscored the Eagles 47-23 in the second half to win the program’s 14th consecutive season opener, 96-63. Thompson’s output was the highest point total for someone not named Ogwumike at Stanford since Toni Kokenis poured in 26 against Tennessee on Dec. 20, 2011.
- The Huskies and Cardinal have met on the court on 16 occasions. UConn holds a 10-6 all-time edge. The Huskies have won the last four matchups, most recently downing the Cardinal, 75-56, in last season’s Final Four battle. The last timeUConn visited Maples Pavilion was in the 2012-13 campaign when UConn held then-ranked No. 1 Stanford to a 19.3 shooting percentage en route to a 61-35 win.
- Monday’s game with UConn marks the 20th time the Cardinal has played the nation’s No. 1 team in the Associated Press poll. Stanford is 6-13 over its previous 19 such meetings, last winning against Baylor in 2012. The team is currently in the midst of a 27-game winning streak in Maples Pavilion, which is the third-longest active stretch in the nation.
