Chicago Sky advance to franchise’s first-ever WNBA Finals
Allie Quigley delivered a career playoff-high with 24 points as the Chicago Sky defeated the Indiana Fever 75-62 in a decisive Game 3 to win the Eastern Conference Championship. With the 2-1 series win over the Fever, Chicago advances to take on the Western Conference champion Phoenix Mercury in the 2014 WNBA Finals.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” said Sky guard/forward Elena Delle Donne. “It’s really a dream come true and this team is so relentless and I’m really proud of them.”
The Sky scored four unanswered points from the tip to gain an early lead and would not trail the entire first quarter. Chicago’s defense dominated, forcing five Indiana turnovers to limit the Fever to just 11 points in the first quarter. After ten minutes, the Sky led 15-11.
Epiphanny Prince found her offensive rhythm in the second quarter, connecting on her second three-point field goal of the game. The 2014 WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year, Allie Quigley, delivered 10 points in the second quarter to help Chicago maintain control. The Sky closed the half on a 6-2 run to take a 37-29 advantage into the break. Quigley paced the Sky with 13 points in the first half.
Tamera Young joined the scoring onslaught starting the second half with four quick points. The Sky’s balanced scoring continued as Prince chipped in five points while Quigley added four off the bench. Chicago led 52-45 after three quarters.
Sylvia Fowles scored eight points in the fourth quarter to help the Sky outscore the Fever 23-17 in the final quarter en route to a 75-62 victory. Quigley led the Sky with 24 points while Fowles finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
The Sky heads to Phoenix for Game 1 of the WNBA Finals on Sunday, September 7 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The game will broadcast on ABC. Phoenix will host the second game of the series at the US Airways Center on Tuesday, September 9 at 7:00 pm. ET. Game two will air on ESPN. The Sky will return home to host game three of the series at the UIC Pavilion on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. CT.
