2014 WNBA Conference Semifinals Set
The league-leading Phoenix Mercury has home court advantage throughout the WNBA playoffs and begins a quest for a third championship at home Friday against Los Angeles during the Western Conference semifinals. However, East teams kick off postseason action on Thursday. No. 2 seed Indiana, hosts the No. 3 team, Washington.
The first round of the WNBA playoffs is a two-out-of-three series (meaning the first team to two wins moves on to the next round). The top two seeds in each conference have the home court advantage for the series. The games alternate home sites starting at the home of the top seed.
The winning team in each first round series advances to the conference finals. This round is also a two-out-of-three series and again alternates home sites starting at the home of the top seed.
The WNBA Finals champion is determined in a best three-out-of-five series. The first two games are played at the home of the top seed, followed by two games (game 4 if needed) at the home of the lower seed. If the teams are tied at the end of four games, the fifth and final game is played at the home of the top seed.
The Finals begin Saturday, September 6. The last possible date for a finals game is September 17 (if the series stretches to five contests).
