North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell to watch team play vs. High Point
From the team:
North Carolina head women’s basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell plans on attending Saturday’s game when her Tar Heels host High Point at Carmichael Arena. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Hatchell will not be on the Carolina bench. Still not able to be among large crowds of people, she will find a seat inside Carmichael Arena to watch the game.
“I’m so excited to be able to come watch our team play tomorrow,” said Hatchell. “I’m feeling great right now with my numbers coming back really good,” referencing her white blood-cell count.
“Patience is one of the hardest things right now for me, because I want so badly to get back with the team. I know I have three more treatments to go through over the next few months. If all goes as planned you could see me back on the bench this season.”
All fans that have a ticket to the men’s game on Saturday against Davidson can gain free admission to the women’s game by showing your ticket at Carmichael Arena.
Hatchell stepped away from her on-the-court coaching responsibilities in October due to a diagnosis of leukemia. She has remained very involved with the team over the last three months, including reviewing practice and game video, speaking multiple times a day with the coaching staff and having face-to-face meetings with players.
