Samsung multiyear marketing and technology partnership with NBA includes WNBA
Samsung and the NBA announced a comprehensive multiyear marketing and technology partnership that includes the WNBA and the D-League. The South Korean global conglomerate becomes the the official handset, tablet and television provider of the leagues.
According to Samsung, the “game-changing partnership” represents its most extensive collaboration with a North American sports league and the NBA’s most extensive partnership with a consumer electronics company. The company hopes to reach fans of all three leagues through a wide array of assets including marquee league events, television and digital exposure plus customized content available on Samsung devices. The deal is for three years and worth $100 million per the Wall Street Journal.
Samsung will be the title partner of the WNBA Performance Awards, which include the Most Valuable Player, Sixth Woman of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Player and Defensive Player of the Year.
This adds to the WNBA’s league-wide marquee partnership with Boost Mobile which includes branding prominently featured on the front of the game jerseys of ten teams.
Samsung and Boost Mobile will both have a presence at NBA All-Star festivities that feature WNBA players. The Samsung deal includes title partnership of several NBA All-Star events including associate partnership of the NBA All-Star Jam Session. However, Boost’s WNBA partnership includes an agreement to be featured prominently within the WNBA-specific area of the NBA All-Star Jam Session.
