Silver Stars forward Sophia Young suffers right knee injury while playing in China

San Antonio Silver Stars forward Sophia Young suffered an injury Thursday, January 24 during the semifinals of the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association Championship. Young, who plays for defending WCBA champion Beijing Great Wall, has torn lateral ligaments in her right knee according to sources close to her. During the WCBA regular season she averaged 19.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest according to the Silver Stars.
The matchup paired Young’s team against Shanxi Flame, a squad that includes Maya Moore (Minnesota Lynx), who averaged over 40 points per game during the regular season, and Ebony Hoffman (Los Angeles Sparks). Moore scored 19 points and added 13 boards plus 7 assists in the 76-54 victory over Beijing. Young left the game after scoring 10 points and pulling down six rebounds.
Moore comforted Young before she left the arena to travel to the hospital. Shanxi won the series against Beijing and will play in the championship game vs. Zhejiang Far East on January 29. Australian national team member and Tulsa Shock center Liz Cambage plays for Zheijiang.
