Baylor basketball teams face possible NCAA sanctions
Baylor women’s and men’s basketball teams face NCAA sanctions after an investigation uncovered over 1,200 impermissible phone calls and text messages between coaches and recruits according to ESPN. Coaches involved include Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey. Baylor implemented self-imposed penalties but the NCAA could add more sanctions.
Self imposed penalties for the women’s basketball program include:
- Prohibiting Mulkey from recruiting off-campus during the summer recruiting period, July 1-31.
- A ban on an assistant from making recruiting calls to prospects that started on January 1. The ban will be lifted on May 1.
- Losing two of its 15 scholarships in 2011-12.
