Tuesday recap: UConn, Penn State and Georgia cruise to victories
No. 2 UConn 81, No. 8 Texas A&M 51
No. 2 UConn (8-0) had no trouble putting away No. 8 Texas A&M (6-2) 81-51 Tuesday night in front of an audience of 12,623 at the XL Center in Hartford. After two early two early ties, UConn took the lead at 17:46 and never looked back. At the half the Huskies led 36-24. Nevertheless, the Aggies held a 25-12 rebounding advantage at the half and a 43-32 final advantage. With the loss Texas A&M dropped two consecutive games for the first time since February 2010.
The other top 25 teams in action last night cruised past their unranked opponents.
No. 17 Penn State 66, Virginia Tech 28
No. 17 Penn State routed Virginia Tech, holding the Hokies scoreless for the final 13 minutes of the game. Virginia Tech’s 28 were the fewest ever scored by the team in a contest. Sophomore Maggie Lucas led the Lady Lions with 20 points.
No. 14 Georgia 80, Mercer
Jasmine Hassell led Georgia with 16 points in a lopsided victory over Mercer. Georgia committed a season-low nine turnovers. They outscored Mercer 52-6 in the paint.
