USA Basketball Fall 2011 European Tour Squad
USA Basketball added two new members to its women’s national team pool before heading on a European tournament and training camp tour. Sophia Young and Danielle Robinson of the San Antonio Silver Stars will join the squad as it begins its travels in Italy this week.
Other members of the touring squad include Swin Cash (Seattle Storm), Tina Charles (Connecticut Sun), Brittney Griner (Baylor University), Asjha Jones (Connecticut Sun), Renee Montgomery (Connecticut Sun), and Cappie Pondexter (New York Liberty).
Candice Dupree and Diana Taurasi from the Phoenix Mercury are expected to join the squad in Europe later this week. Athletes from the Atlanta Dream or Indiana Fever may join the U.S. team following the conclusion of the WNBA Eastern Conference Finals.
The teams opens its training camp in Naples, Italy, on September 27 to begin preparing for a five-game European exhibition tour that runs through October 9. The team will play two games in Naples and will also travel to Spain, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
