NCAA DII Championship: Michigan Tech vs. Clayton State, title game first for both teams

Both the Clayton State Lakers and Michigan Tech Huskies look to win their first national title in program history when the two teams face off Friday night for the NCAA Division II women’s basketball championship. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the teams.

The Huskies are on a school-record 18-game winning streak dating back to January 20 at Ferris State. Tech has won 10 games at home and eight on the road with three victories against nationally ranked teams.

Led by sophomore Sam Hoyt who scored a career-high 23 points, the Huskies beat Northwest Missouri State in Wednesday’s national semifinal game. Clayton State beat Shaw 63-46 in their semifinal game on the same day.

The Lakers are led by Teshymia Tillman with 15 points per game, followed by Tanisha Woodard at 12 points and Drameka Griggs with 11 per game. Brittany Hall leads the Peach Belt Conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.430) and Woodard leads the conference in steals.
