Capital One Academic All-America Teams
Several colleges dropped news releases today about their athletes being named to the Capital One Academic All-America Team (name is trademarked). That’s why UConn’s Maya Moore got so much press.
But the list of winners was released THREE weeks ago. Why did it take so long to leak? Maybe because the list is so long. There are eight districts representing the areas of the country. Each district has both a University division and a College division, and within each of those categories are a first, second and third team.
That’s a lot of athletes who are getting it done in the classroom. Big, big ups to them – that’s what it’s all about. And no disrespect to Moore, but there are plenty of other athletes who are also deserving of a news release about them.

Outstanding job.
There are some interesting majors on the list, too. But I have to give it up to Blanche Alverson of Auburn, Sharwil Bell of Rhodes and JuliAnne Chisholm of Kansas State for making the academic team with pre-med studies – that’s amazing.
Congrats to all the academic all-Americans.
