Seattle Storm wins Western Conference title

The Seattle Storm swept the Western Conference Finals series defeating Phoenix Mercury 91-88 Sunday afternoon to advance to the WNBA Finals.

The Mercury led the Storm  by as much as 19. However, on the strength of shooting by Swin Cash, the Storm roared back and tied the game at 88 with 31.8 seconds left in the game. Sue Bird made the game winning shot, a three-pointer with 2.8 seconds on the game clock.The Storm outshot the Mercury 34-17 in the fourth quarter.

Cash had 23 points and eight rebounds. League MVP Lauren Jackson added 20 points and eight boards. Bird has 16 points and eight assists.

Diana Taurasi led Phoenix with 28 points. Temeka Johnson finished with 15 points and 12 assists, both postseason career highs and the first postseason double-double of her career.

The Storm return to KeyArena for Games 1 and 2 of the 2010 WNBA Finals for the best-of-five game series. Game 1 will be played on Sunday, Sept. 12 at 12 p.m. and Game 2 will be played on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. against either the Atlanta Dream or the New York Liberty.
