San Antonio Silver Stars fire head coach Sandy Brondello
The San Antonio Silver Stars announced Monday a decision to not renew the contract of head coach Sandy Brondello. Her husband, associate head coach Olaf Lange, will not have his contract picked up by the team.
"It is always difficult to make a coaching change," said Spurs Sports & Entertainment president RC Buford in a press release. "In this case, it is especially difficult as Sandy and Olaf are both wonderful people. We thank them for their dedication to the Silver Stars and wish them both the very best in their futures."
The Silver Stars had a lackluster 2010 season, finishing 14-20. The couple took over coaching the team in February after serving as assistants to Dan Hughes for several seasons.
Brondello joined the Silver Stars in 2005 and served as the team’s lead assistant coach for five seasons. Lange joined the team’s staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2007 season.
Lange has a coaching job in Australia with the WNBL Logan Thunder.
