Tina Charles named Rookie of the Month for May 2010

Tina Charles, the celebrated Connecticut graduate and number one 2010 WNBA draft pick, earned the first Rookie of the Month award for this season.

In May, Charles led all rookies in the league and the Connecticut Sun in points (16.6 ppg) and rebounds (9.6 rpg). She started all five games and ranks in the top five in rebounds and top 15 in points. She scored  20 or more points in two games. She had a double-double in her first WNBA game with in 17 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Chicago. 

Charles’ May highlights:

• May 15 vs. Chicago: Double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-61 win.
• May 21 vs. Atlanta: Career-highs 22 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in 97-82 loss.
• May 27 vs. Minnesota: 21 points, including 8-14 in field goals, and 10 rebounds in a 105-79 win.
• May 30 vs. Washington: 13 points, nine rebounds in 34 minutes in a 69-65 loss.
