Dishin & Swishin 3/22/12 Podcast: A new roundtable looks at the Sweet Sixteen
Listeners enjoyed last week’s NCAA tournament roundtable so much, that as we reach the Sweet Sixteen this weekend, we are bringing you a new panel, and a new roundtable discussion, reviewing the first two rounds of games and previewing this weekend.
Abby Waner certainly knows her way around an NCAA tournament bracket, having made multiple appearances as a member of the Duke Blue Devils for the 2005-06 through 2008-09 seasons. She is now using those experiences as one of the best young broadcasters on ESPN’s women’s basketball coverage, and just completed an assignment at the Bowling Green pod of the Des Moines region.
Christy Winters-Scott also has a Final Four trip on her resume as a player for Maryland in 1989. She also has an extensive coaching background and is working at ESPN as well, where she just finished working the College Park pod of the Raleigh region.
A newcomer, we are pleased to welcome Shimmy Gray-Miller to the Dishin & Swishin roundtable panels. Having just completed her coaching career at St. Louis, Gray-Miller not only brings the experience of someone that just faced teams in the tournament, but also the fresh perspective of someone that is just now looking at things from outside the coaching profession.
The result is a great roundtable, filled with no punches pulled conversation covering everything from Waner’s reactions to Brittney Griner’s dunk while calling the game, Gray-Miller’s analysis of Saint Bonaventure having played against them this season, and Winters-Scott’s views on Maryland’s performance this past weekend having been at College Park.
There also is a great discussion on the resignation of former Texas’ coach Gail Goestenkors. The panelists bring the perspectives of a person who played for Coach G, coached against her, and know the rigorous requirements of being a Division I head coach.
