New WNBA president Laurel Richie attended last night’s season opener in Los Angeles when the Sparks rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Minnesota Lynx 82-74. Candace Parker led her team with 19 points and 10 rebounds and veteran power foward Tina Thompson added 15 points. Heralded rookie Maya Moore’s WNBA debut came with a game-high 21 points for the Lynx. The two teams meet again Sunday afternoon in Minnesota.
On the sidelines the cute antics of Parker’s daughter Lailaa and Lauren Lockwood, daughter of former Sparks player and WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, provided entertainment for fans near the court. Lailaa sported a gold tutu and Lauren, a purple leather jacket.
