Atlanta Dream upsets Washington Mystics, earns first-ever playoff victory
The fourth-seeded Atlanta Dream earned their first-ever playoff victory in game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series against No. 1 seed Washington Mystics Wednesday night. Second-year forward Angel McCoughtry led her team with 28 points in front of a crowd of 10,322 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The Dream came away with a 95-90 win.
Dream point guard Coco Miller who was cut by the Mystics on May 11, 2009 before being signed by the Dream days later had 21 points. The game marked Miller’s first start of the season.
Other Dream players in double digits included Iziane Castro Marques with 10 and Erika DeSouza with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Crystal Langhorne led the Mystics with 16 points and nine rebounds.
The best-of-three series continues in Atlanta on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on NBATV.
